Rest in peace..

Today was a day which i'll probably never forget. May be because i had never seen death up, close and personal like this before. My grandpa, as in my mom's father, expired today, thanks to an unexpected heart attack. He wasn't keeping well for weeks, and had to go through a million tests to find out the cause of his unending illness. All the tests were negative, but his temperature seemed relentless. This morning we received a call from my grandma who sounded terrified on the phone while she told us to come over as soon as possible as my grandfather's condition had gone from bad to worse. My mother, being a high-blood pressure patient herself went pale after learning this news. We both left our house in a state of complete panic, and caught hold of a rick which was made to race to my nanna'a house at a lightening speed thanks to my mom's frantic yelling at the driver.

We ran up to the 4th floor in mere seconds, just to find my grandpa lying on the bed breathing heavily enough for the sound to echo around the entire room, giving an ominous aura to the house. The doctor was there too, as my grandma had rang him up at 6.30 am to let him know that it was an emergency. The doctor checked his patient's pulse, and mentioned that the blood pressure had literally plummeted down to a scary figure. My grandpa's panting continued, while he kept on having the feeling to go to the lavatory every now and then. However, he didn't had the strength left to drag his weightless body all the way to the bathroom. While me and my mom tried to get him up to help him to his destination, it almost scared me how light he had become and i was afraid that he might break down into pieces like a clay toy if not handled properly. As we helped him get on his feet and literally carry him to the toilet, his breathing grew heavier and his eyeballs rolled all the way upto his brain as if to look at the ceiling above.

The next thing i remember is that he made a grumbling sound and slumped to the floor while we got hold of him before a possible thud. We then had to bring him back on the bed, which wasn't easy as now his body had befriended gravity to an extent wherein it was difficult to even make him stand. Once back on the bed, the doc went to work on his pulse again, after which he mentioned that the patient's heart had stopped. He then started giving him a strong chest massage to make the heart start beating again, but to no avail. This continued for 3 mintues as per medical rules, and then the doc said that it was a hopeless situation now. My mom was the one who took a while to get a grip on herself, as she went on to talk with the corpse lying in front of her for a while, in a state of absolute hysteria. My grandma was suprisingly poised and in control of her emotions, which took some time to start overflowing. The calls to relatives then began which went on for a while.

People started pouring in leaps and bounds after a few hours. There was a lot of crying and sobbing, as was expected. The hearse-cum-ambulance was then called for which took us to the nearest crematory where i saw the last of my grandfather's body while it burnt to ashes in a few moments.

I came back home then, as i had to prepare for my exams which begin tomorrow. So, to sum it up, it wasn't the best of day. I hope his soul rests in peace.
